Akriti SaxenaM.D. Request An Appointment
At a young age, Dr. Akriti Saxena’s younger brother suffered from a serious bout of meningitis, which left him with permanent hearing impairment. As her family dealt with this challenging time, Dr. Saxena was struck by how caring her brother’s team of physicians were and how tirelessly they worked to ensure the best possible outcomes for him. From then on, Dr. Saxena knew she wanted to be a physician, so she could help patients and families in need.
Today, as a fellowship-trained gastroenterologist board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology, Dr. Saxena believes that compassion is at the core of good patient care. This means taking the time to listen and truly understand each patient’s unique needs and concerns and treating each patient with kindness and empathy.
Dr. Saxena graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree in bioengineering. She earned her medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine, where she also completed residency training. She completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at Boston Medical Center, followed by an additional advanced fellowship specializing in IBD at the University of Pennsylvania.
“As a physician, my approach to patient care is centered around three main principles: compassion, communication, and collaboration. By following these principles, I strive to provide the highest quality care to my patients, and to ensure that they are active partners in their own health care,” Dr. Saxena said.
Before joining Capital Digestive Care, Dr. Saxena was an assistant professor of clinical medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. As a faculty member there, she spent a significant amount of time working with patients with ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.
Dr. Saxena grew up in Boston and now lives in Maryland with her husband and two children. In her free time, she enjoys cooking and spending time with her family outdoors.
